N95 Firmware v30.0.015 – Flash Lite 3.0
Alessandro posted about the update to the N95 firmware yesterday, so I didn’t waste much time waiting to upgrade. The previous firmware was a bit of a disappointment and I had started looking into ways to downgrade (Didn’t have much joy). Anyway, the upgrade went smoothly but very time consuming, you don’t want to have to reset your machine twice!
In terms of Flash Lite, I’ve noticed that the issue with FLVs switching the phone to landscape has been addressed. I still need to investigate the security sandbox issue, but initial tests seem to show some improvement in terms of speed.
Another addition is automatic screen rotation made possible by the built-in accelerometer. You need to access the display settings to enable this feature. I’ve knocked up a quick example that uses the stage listener to detect when the screen has rotated and update the width and height on the screen.
You can access it directly using your barcode reader;

Or you can get the source here.

Hi Ugur,
I just tried Pasi’s Accelerometer test and the issue still exists. I was hoping the issue would have been sorted.
Maybe Mark or Bill will have more information on the problem and when we can expect a fix.

What’s this got to do with the iPhone? Oh yeah, I forgot; no Flash on iPhone. Damn…
